Throwing across your body is typically a cardinal sin for quarterbacks, but with arm strength like Flower Mound (Tex.) High quarterback Nick Evers possesses, it just works.

In Flower Mound’s game Friday night against Lewisville, Evers was pressured in the pocket, stepped up and rolled to his left and threw a perfect strike across his body to a streaking receiver.

Evers, a four-star and the No. 141 overall prospect according to the industry-generated On3 Consensus, also threw a touchdown pass earlier in the game to tie it at 7-7.

Despite being in only his second year as a full-time varsity starter, Evers has put up impressive passing numbers. Before an injury two weeks ago, he’d totaled 1,053 yards passing this year with eight touchdowns while completing 76 of 141 pass attempts. Evers has also added 250 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

It’s that kind of production that sent him skyrocketing up the most On300 rankings, where he jumped from No. 147 overall to No. 48.

Nick Evers has an electric release

One of his best attributes as a passer is his lightning quick release, something that On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power noted earlier this season.

“Evers showcased his patented quick release – perhaps the fastest we’ve seen in the 2022 cycle. He gets it out quick and hot, making it tough for defenders to make a play on the ball. There were a number of high-level throws to the sideline, which activated the whole field and stressed the Highland Park defense.”

“…We also liked what we saw from a mobility and pocket feel standpoint. Evers was able to break contain and pick up chunks of yards on several scrambles. He’s a good athlete and can get to the edge.”

Can he help land Evan Stewart?

Besides being an elite high school quarterback, Florida is hoping that having Evers in the fold can assist with the recruitment of five-star wideout Evan Stewart. The two are close friends and played on the same 7-on-7 team together.

Evers has said he’s openly recruiting Stewart to join him in Gainesville, and he even posted a graphic the Gators made with the duo posing next to a College Football Playoff championship trophy. The Gators will be thrilled to have him in the fold regardless, but they wouldn’t mind if he brought more than just his talents to Florida.
