It’s been a busy month for Roswell (Ga.) Fellowship Christian five-star offensive tackle Josh Petty.

March has witnessed the elite lineman take trips to ClemsonGeorgia Tech, Georgia and Auburn. Now, he’s rounding things out in Tallahassee by visiting Florida State.

The Seminoles are one of the many programs looking to stand out in Petty’s recruitment. The five-star is using this spring to get a full lay of the land before he begins to dwindle things down by locking in official visits and figuring out who his real contenders are.

“Committing is hard,” Petty told On3. “I’ve heard that from everybody. A lot of people tell me to go with my heart and that wherever feels like home probably is home. I’ve got that feeling about a couple schools, so I just have to figure out which one feels the most like home.”

Given his busy March, Petty is seeing plenty of the top programs in the nation in a short swing. Comparing and contrasting those trips will come easier as he continues to work through his recruitment. FSU is the latest to try and make an impression on the 6-foot-4, 265-pounder.

Petty is the No. 18 overall prospect and No. 4 OT in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 5 player in Georgia.

Florida State Class Breakdown

Only four prospects are committed to Mike Norvell and his staff thus far, but three of the pledges are blue-chip (four and five-star) recruits and all four hail from The Sunshine State.

The quartet of FSU commits are split on offense and defense. The current headliner in the class is Jacksonville Raines four-star interior offensive lineman Solomon Thomas — who ranks No. 21 overall in the On3 Industry Ranking.

“I wanted to make the decision for a good little minute now,” Thomas told Warchant after his December commitment. “I actually wanted to commit the day after they had said that Florida State wasn’t going to go to the playoffs, which I was kind of upset about because I was rooting for them. … It hurt me, so I was like, ‘OK, I’m gonna make it to where they can’t count us out again.”

On the offensive side, Thomas is flanked by Jacksonville Mandarin three-star quarterback Tramell Jones. The 6-foot, 185-pound signal-caller may be just the No. 29 QB in the cycle, but his stock has continued to rise since his pledge to FSU in April 2023.

On defense, Cocoa four-star EDGE Javion Hilson is a former Alabama pledge who joined the fold in Tallahassee in January following the retirement of Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban. He is a top-50 overall recruit. Sanford Seminole four-star linebacker Ethan Pritchard is also committed to FSU and is the No. 34 player at his position.
