Brock Glenn: ‘Say what you want to say about the SEC, but we’re just as good’

Florida State was left out of the College Football Playoff in favor of the SEC, with Alabama grabbing the four-seed and facing Michigan in the Rose Bowl. The Seminoles reward for going undefeated? Georgia in the Orange Bowl, where Brock Glenn will be getting the start at quarterback. It’s just the latest opportunity for FSU to prove they can compete against SEC competition.

They have already done so twice this season, taking down LSU and Florida during the regular season. Glenn believes that proves Florida State is capable of competing against the conference’s best. Georgia will be the latest test, fresh off a 29-game winning streak.

“We’ve played two SEC teams and won both of them,” Glenn said. “LSU and Florida. So, you can say what you want about the SEC but we’re just as good. Both teams are top in the country. So, this will be a good and exciting matchup.”

Just as they beat LSU and Florida this season, Mike Norvell’s squad did the same in 2022. There will be a win streak against the SEC on the line vs. Georgia, with Florida State looking to extend it to five. Since Norvell arrived back in 2020, his lone loss to the conference came to Florida during the 2021 season.

Florida State not the only ACC school with success vs. SEC

FSU isn’t the only ACC team to find success against against the SEC, though. The ACC finished with a 6-4 record against their conference rival, with four of those results occurring during the final week of the regular season. Rivalries can be a crapshoot at times, with the conference splitting the annual contests.

Wins such as North Carolina over South Carolina and Miami over Texas A&M were seen as big victories during the nonconference portion of the schedule. None were bigger than Florida State beating LSU though, being a matchup of preseason top-10 teams.

The Orange Bowl will be one of two ACC vs. SEC bowl matchups. Clemson and Kentucky are set to play in the Gator Bowl on Friday, kicking off what should be a great weekend in college football. If Clemson can get a win, it would clinch the hypothetical season series in favor of the ACC.

Glenn will be hoping Florida State gets the job done against Georgia, though. After feeling like they should have been in the College Football Playoff, the Seminoles want to close out the year on a positive note. No better way than getting a third win against SEC competition — especially the back-to-back national champions.
