Florida State defensive back Akeem Dent exits game with injury vs. Southern Miss
Florida State star defensive back Akeem Dent left the Southern Miss game early in the second quarter due to an injury to his left leg. Dent was seen clutching the back of his left leg (hamstring area) as he went down to the turf after a long completion. He eventually got up and made his way into the medical tent with FSU trainers to be examined.
He was also seen walking with Florida State’s trainers back to the locker room after being examined in the medical tent. Dent is currently the Seminoles’ active leader with career pass breakups, so if he has to miss any time, it’ll be a major loss for the ‘Noles secondary. In the third quarter, Dent was seen on the ‘Noles sideline in street clothes, with a bandage on his left knee. No further specifics were known about the injury at the time.

Keon Coleman continues to make spectacular plays for the FSU passing attack. He had a play in which he shook a Southern Miss defender in the open field, then hurdled another, in one of the many highlight-reel worthy plays the ‘Noles made in the blowout. He hauled in three catches for 48 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The Seminoles had things well in hand early in the third quarter. Saturday night’s game was a thorough beatdown of the Golden Eagles. Florida State was leading 66-13 late in the fourth quarter and piled on the points with highlight play after highlight play. That would end up being the final score. Running back Trey Benson had nine carries for 79 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
The Seminoles now have an eight-game winning streak dating back to last season–the longest active winning streak in the ACC. Florida State paid Southern Miss $1.5 million to play in the game, and they handed them a beatdown they won’t soon forget. FSU piled up 306 total rushing yards and also tacked on four touchdowns on the ground.
Florida State continues to play like a Top 5 ranked team in America. They certainly didn’t do anything to dispel that notion on Saturday night, but they will need to clean up the drops from their receivers. Especially if they end up making the College Football Playoff at season’s end, drops could prove to be costly on such a big stage.
