Florida State wrapped up spring practice Saturday with its annual Garnet vs. Gold game at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. Heading into Year Three of the Mike Norvell era, the Seminoles – who are currently 8-13 in two seasons under his direction – have their minds set on taking a step forward this upcoming season.

Florida State spent the past month going through spring practice and then played in front of its fans on Saturday to wrap-up the period. Now the Seminoles now turn their attention to summer workouts before fall camp. As the program looks to improve in every area before the season arrives, one specific position group has been focused on more than others this offseason: the quarterbacks.

Florida State heads into the summer with redshirt junior Jordan Travis expected to be the team’s starting quarterback, but Norvell also has other options with redshirt sophomores Tate Rodemaker and Gino English. Travis – a former On3 Consensus three-star recruit – threw for 1,539 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions last season.

Meeting with the media following the Seminoles’ spring game on Saturday, Norvell evaluated his team’s passing game performance and spoke about where his quarterbacks were at heading into the summer.

“It was hit-and-miss,” Norvell said. “There were some missed opportunities, some dropped balls, times that we were under pressures. … That’s one of the things as you’re working through. I think, all in all, it’s been a great spring for us and our development there. Tonight, it probably wasn’t the best night of what we’ve done this spring, but a lot of factors that go into it.

“I know we’ll continue to work there, and really excited about the group and what we’re going to be able to do in the passing game.”

Florida State is scheduled to kickoff its 2022 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 27 against Duquesne in Tallahassee.
