After a long wait, Destyn Hill is thankful to be a member of the Florida State football program.

Hill did not join the Seminoles after signing for the class of 2021, citing a “personal matter.” For two years, he waited to enroll in school. That officially happened in May, and Hill recently spoke with the media for the first time since joining the Florida State program.

He explained why he stayed quiet as the process played out.

“I am comfortable with it. It’s really just a family thing, you know,” Destyn Hill said. “That’s how I choose to keep it. I’m here now and I’m excited to see what happens in the future with me being at Florida State.”

The fact that Hill was able to keep what was going on quiet in this day and age is impressive, considering how often news breaks on social media.

He explained that he purposely stayed off social media and instead relied on those who are close to him during the process.

“This generation is always on social media and stuff. When I was with my family I just chose to stay off social media and focus on family,” Hill said. “And that’s really it. I just focused with my family. We just stayed close as a family. And that’s it.”

Hill was ranked as the No. 112 overall player in the country and the No. 18 receiver in the nation for the class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry rankings. He is from New Orleans.

Destyn Hill details difficult journey to Florida State, two-year wait

Destyn Hill and Seminoles fans have been anxiously awaiting his arrival. As Hill stood in front of media members for the first time as a FSU football player last week, he put into words why it was worth the wait.

“As you asked me the question, my mind started moving,” he said. “It’s just an amazing feeling. It’s a feeling like no other. Right now, I’m just going through it. That’s all I can say is it’s just amazing and more than I could explain. I’m at Florida State University. That just adds more icing on the cake for me.”

Hill was one of the top members of Florida State’s 2021 recruiting class, choosing the Seminoles over offers from other high-profile programs such as AlabamaGeorgiaLSU and more.

All throughout the past two years, Hill stayed in touch with members of the Seminoles coaching staff. That gave him confidence that, despite the long wait, he would arrive in Tallahassee eventually.

“I never really worried about it because we kept the communication,” he said. “So when the time came, the time came. I’m here now and I’m ready to move forward.”
