Spring games are always fun for the fans to get a glimpse of their football rosters and how things are taking shape heading into the upcoming season. Coaches always want to survive the spring period with as few injuries as possible. Unfortunately, the Florida State Seminoles were banged up all over the place on Saturday, suffering injuries to a number of players, including one of their biggest stars.

Alabama transfer offensive lineman TJ Ferguson was down on the field for a few minutes. He was eventually helped off the field with assistance, but needed some help to get into the medical tent. Ferguson wasn’t the only one to spend time in the tent. Florida State running back Caziah Holmes came out of the medical tent and walked gingerly back to the locker room, according to Logan B. Robinson of NoleGameDay.

Following the game, FSU head coach Mike Norvell updated fans on the status of all the players who got hurt. And it was a pretty positive update, for the most part.

There were no updates on the injuries to Malik Benson, offensive lineman T.J. Ferguson, or running back Caziah HolmesAccording to Warchant.com, Norvell noted that nothing looked “overly extensive”, but they will wait for further medical evaluations.

Mike Norvell spoke with Pete Thamel ahead of the spring game

ESPN’s Pete Thamel tracked down Mike Norvell ahead of the spring game and got him to touch on a few topics before the players started scrimmaging.

He recently noted that Florida State’s practice on Thursday was one of his team’s best and most competitive that he’s had there during his time with the ‘Noles. What does that say about the squad he’s got heading into next year?

“Well, I think those are one of those identity practices. A lot of eyes go on today (spring game), but what are you gonna do building up to it? And these guys definitely didn’t try to get through it. They tried to get better. And you know, it was a very competitive day. I thought it was definitely a positive step to what we ultimately want to be. And now we get a chance to go compete today,” Norvell said.

How does the FSU head coach feel about his team in the spring?

“It’s been a great spring practice. A lot of speed. A lot of explosiveness. We’ve seen a lot of great playmaking ability. And now it’s time to go do it in front of our fans and on television. So, it’s great to see these guys continue to work and take another step,” Norvell said.

One interesting note on the broadcast was the overall team speed of Florida State this spring. The Seminoles have 10 players that have been tracked at 20 miles per hour or more in practice via their Catapult GPS tracking software. That’s some impressive team speed and it’ll be fascinating to see how the Seminoles perform next fall.
