Florida State athlete Joshua Burrell plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. He spent three seasons with the Seminoles.

In the 2023 campaign, Burrell made 10 appearances for the Seminoles. In 2022, he appeared in the first nine games of the season before being sidelined due to an injury.

Burrell played wide receiver his first season at FSU, but became a running back ahead of his sophomore season. This past season, Burrell was simply listed as an athlete, splitting time between both positions.

Burrell included a heartfelt message to Florida State with his decision to leave.

“I want to thank God and my family for their love, help, support, and guidance,” Burrell wrote. “These three years at Florida State University have been a true blessing. The growth that I have made at this university as a man and athlete has been a game-changer for my future. Through success, failure, achievements, injuries, roadblocks, and more, I have learned a lot, although it has not been easy. I will never take for granted these experiences.

“Coach Norvell, thank you for impacting my life by believing in me to play at FSU. Coach Dugs, thank you for being a great role model and investing in me. Coach Yac, thank you for having open arms when I transitioned to playing running back. Thank you to all the other coaches and a huge shoutout to all the athletic trainers that I have worked with in my time at Florida State.

“To my teammates, my brothers… I love y’all boys for real. The brotherhood we’ve formed made the decision hard. Continue to climb and chase excellence.”

Joshua Burrell played high school football at Blythewood (SC), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 510 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Burrell plans to graduate from FSU in May 2024. He will have two years of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer. He is the 21st player from Florida State to enter the transfer portal.

However, the Seminoles have added 14 players during the transfer window, including two former four-star prospects. Florida State is currently listed as the No. 4 team in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.
