Former Florida State star defensive back Corey Fuller is expected to join the Seminoles coaching staff, Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman reported on Thursday night. He will work in their player personnel department.

Fuller officially announced his resignation as the Gadsden County High School head coach on Thursday. There was a time when he delivered an impassioned speech to his players in the pouring rain, when he heard them complaining.

The former Seminoles’ standout served as Gadsden County’s head coach from 2015-2016 and in the 2019, 2020, and 2021 seasons and compiled a 70-59 overall as a high school head coach.

He’s also no stranger to the college football coaching ranks. Fuller was the defensive backs coach for the Florida A&M Rattlers from 2011 to 2014. He also served four games as Florida A&M’s interim head coach in 2014, following the dismissal of Earl Holmes.

The 50-year-old Tallahassee native spent ten years in the NFL with a number of teams, including the Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns, and Baltimore Ravens. During his excellent NFL career, he racked up 590 tackles, 17 interceptions, and one touchdown.

He announced a goodbye to his players at Gadsden in a video released online. “I don’t want you all to think that when I leave that the program won’t be safe,” Fuller said in the video, as transcribed by Jack Williams of the Tallahassee Democrat. “These guys behind me are prepared to take you all to the next level. This team is coming back this year and has a chance to go to the final four.”

During his time with Florida State under former head coach Bobby Bowden (1990-1994), Fuller notched 106 tackles, six forced fumbles, and two interceptions. He was a member of the team that won the national championship in 1993.

Fuller was a gifted two-sport athlete and was also a part of the 1994 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championship team for Florida State. He was part of a long list of two-sport stars for the Seminoles, which included Deion Sanders (baseball, football), Martin Mayhew (football, track), Terrell Buckley (football, track) and Dexter Carter (football, track)

He was selected in the second round of the 1995 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings.

It’ll be exciting to see how Fuller progresses in the coming years in the college football coaching ranks.
