Georgia might be the back-to-back national champions and likely will be favored heading into next fall as well. But there are still a few programs that are primed to make some College Football Playoff noise during the 2023 season. Florida State is one of those, with head coach Mike Norvell finally steering the ship in the right direction this past year.

Fox’s Joel Klatt laid out why the Seminoles could be considered a team that can make a run, listing out multiple reasons. Buzz surrounding Tallahassee is going to be palpable, with one of college football’s giants waiting to break out on the big stage.

“I think Florida State is an interesting one,” Klatt said. “You got your quarterback coming back. A lot of hype around the recruiting class. Some good sentiment around the program. Florida State is absolutely a team that could make a little bit of a run.”

Jordan Travis returns after throwing for over 3,200 yards while adding 24 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Norvell has done a great job in the NCAA transfer portal, bringing immediate impact players on campus.

In a new era of the sport, Florida State has been one to adapt the correct way. The dividends are being paid off heading into spring camp.

Joel Klatt concerned about Florida State schedule

Whenever setting expectations for a season, the first thing anybody does is look at a schedule. For Florida State, it’s not the most encouraging 12 games you have ever seen in your life. Two SEC games are on there with an opener against LSU and then a finale against Florida.

Add in potential preseason ACC favorites Clemson on the road and Klatt is concerned about the Seminoles’ 2023 schedule.

“Now, their schedule is not easy,” Klatt said. “They’re going to open with LSU.”

While the ACC might not be the toughest Power Five conference, we have had two consecutive seasons without a CFP representative from them. Clemson is looking to build back to a national title power under head coach Dabo Swinney, while Norvell is looking to do so for the first time.

If Florida State is going to worry about the schedule, the first six games of the year will be the biggest concern. Heading into the back half of the season would set the Seminoles in contention to not only win an ACC championship for the first time since 2014 but also be one of the final four teams.
