Florida State Handling Expectations And Thriving

Florida State receiver Johnny Wilson seems to be in good spirits after leaving Saturday’s game against Virginia Tech with injury. Wilson went down on the first play of the second half in an eventual 39-17 win and did not return.

Wilson stayed down for a number of minutes and needed assistant from the Seminoles medical staff in getting off the field. He was taken back to the locker room for further evaluation. However, the redshirt junior took to Twitter following the game to offer a positive update on how he is feeling.

“I’m straight! Love these boys man!” he wrote.

Wilson is a valuable member of the Seminoles receiving corps, so Florida State will hope the injury isn’t long-term. He still ended up leading the team in receiving on Saturday despite not playing most of the second half, finishing with four catches for 54 yards and two touchdowns.

Redshirt junior Kentron Poitier replaced Wilson, making his first appearance of the season since the opener against LSU. He did not record any stats.

Wilson did not have a touchdown on the season entering Saturday’s game, so it was good to see him break out. He so far leads the team in receiving this season with 20 catches for 357 yards.

Wilson’s next chance to return to the field will come in Week 7 when the Seminoles take on Syracuse at home. Kick time for that game has yet to be announced.

Mike Norvell addresses injury to Johnny Wilson

Following the win, Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell updated the status of Wilson’s injury and he talked about his big performance. He wasn’t able to say whether the receiver will miss any time at this point.

“We’ll see,” Norvell said. “Obviously, he wasn’t able to come back. We’ll see what that looks like as we move forward to this week. But, man, what a great start to the game. Johnny’s been really good for us this year.”

Wilson joined Florida State last season after spending the first two seasons of his college career with Arizona State. He immediately made an impact to finish the year with a team-high 43 catches for 897 yards and five touchdowns.

The receiver has picked up where he left off so far this season, and Norvell knows how valuable it will be to get him back.

“Coming into the game, I think he had 300 yards receiving,” Norvell continued. “Hadn’t been in the end zone yet. Being able to see him do that was big, but made a couple really good plays.
