Former Florida State quarterback James Blackman knows Jordan Travis well. The two actually played together at Florida State. Now, Blackman has praised Travis, hyping him up for the Heisman Trophy ahead of the 2023 season.

As Fall Camp gets going, Travis reacted to that Heisman hype coming from Blackman by returning the praise

“Yeah, that’s my guy,” Jordan Travis said. “I’ve always defended him. Since day one that’s been the person that mentored me when I first got here and things were going bad. I always go back to high school when I got knocked out on the sideline and I just remember some quarterback on the opposite team standing over me, I had no idea who he is, but yeah, that’s my guy.”

James Blackman left Florida State for Arkansas State but is back in the state now with the Miami Dolphins. Even though they’re not on the same team anymore, the two have remained close.

“I’m always supporting him from a distance. We always talk. Yeah, that’s my guy for real.”

With all the hype around Jordan Travis, it’s easy to see why he’s as confident as he’s ever been.

“I’m as confident as I’ve ever been,” Travis said. “Obviously, going into my sixth year of college it’s time to flip that switch and become confident. But when you have teammates like I have, it’s pretty easy to be confident. When you have a strong offensive line, receivers across the field, you can throw it up and they’ll get it. The defense is really good … it’s a blessing, man.”

Mike Norvell on why Jordan Travis can win the Heisman Trophy

James Blackman isn’t the only one in Tallahassee who has high hopes for Jordan Travis this season. Head coach Mike Norvell also has massive expectations for him and thinks that he has every ability to win the Heisman Trophy.

“Don’t get me wrong, I want people to talk about Florida State, our players, each individual — I hope every player is up for a national award. It’s a celebration of how you’ve done, but ultimately, you have got to go do it and I’ll always watch it in the work. Jordan is one of the most humble people out there, as he has grown through this journey, seeing the outside world and being excited who I know that I get to coach — that is a good thing,” Norvell said.

“I told him at that point, before we started a game last year, I believe you can win one. Now, that is a bold statement, but I believe in him. I believe in the growth that I’ve seen and the growth that I know is still ahead. It’s also one of those awards that it takes everybody. But when you watch him work, he has it [mentally] and he has it [in his heart]. It’s why people follow him, too.”
