Florida State has been looking for contributors they can count on each game all season long. Some have emerged in Matthew Cleveland and Darin Green Jr. but, in Leonard Hamilton’s eyes, almost none of the Seminoles are as consistent as junior guard Caleb Mills.

Hamilton praised Mills following a career-best tying performance in FSU’s 75-69 loss to Boston College. He said Mills exudes a certain confidence that allows him to be more reliable each game than anyone else on the roster.

“We ask Caleb to attack the basket. But that’s what our plan was for the entire team. Caleb just has that confidence that allows him to be more consistent,” said Hamilton. “The same gaps were available for our other players. But, obviously, the level of confidence that it takes to go in there and make decisions in traffic like that? We have not developed to that point yet.”

“Caleb, I thought, kind of kept us in the game,” Hamilton said. “He was consistent the whole game attacking the basket. He just had to play too many minutes. I thought he was exhausted.”

Mills scored a season-best and tied a career-high with 27 points. He reached that number by getting to the free-throw line 21 times and making 17 of them. He also tallied seven rebounds and a pair of assists in 38 minutes.

This stat line brought Mills’ season averages to 13 points, 3.5 assists, three rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. That’s good for third-best in scoring on the team as well as the Seminole’s lead in assists and steals.

If Florida State is going to be consistent at any position, point guard is the right spot to have it in. That makes Mills vital to what Hamilton and the Seminoles can still accomplish over their final three-game stretch before the ACC Tournament.
