Florida State Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell admitted that he will always have the feeling of hurt that came with getting snubbed by the College Football Playoff.

The topic came up as Florida State is preparing for the Orange Bowl and Norvell was asked if he’s still mad about the CFP Selection Committee’s decision.

“Sure. I mean, I will always have the feelings of what happened,” Mike Novell said. “But at the end of the day, I wasn’t in that room and it wasn’t my choice. So, my beliefs of what it is, that’s that.”

Despite those frustrations, Mike Norvell also has a feeling of pride when it comes to the 2023 Florida State Seminoles.

“Ultimately, I’m really proud for the feelings I have that [we] maybe didn’t get an opportunity at one thing, I am so proud of what and who this team is and what they represented for 13 weeks of the season and now whatever challenge presents itself moving forward, there’s going to be something that we point back to that says we’ve dealt with it and we’ve grown from it and we get to be better throughout it,” Norvell said.

“But I’ll never lose the feelings that I have, and I hope these guys don’t either.”

This was Florida State’s first unbeaten regular season and ACC Championship Game win since the 2014 season, a year where the Seminoles lost in the first round of the College Football Playoff. For Mike Norvell, it was also the culmination of what has been a remarkable rebuild in Tallahassee. Now, the Seminoles are getting ready to take on Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

“But it doesn’t take away from what these guys have accomplished throughout the course of the year,” Norvell concluded.

Paul Finebaum calls reaction from Florida State fans over CFP ‘unprecedented’

In the wake of the CFP decision to leave Florida State on the outside looking in, there have been numerous complaints about the decision. It’s a reaction that ESPN’s Paul Finebaum called unprecedented.

“Really unprecedented. I understand, all the things that have been said, I understand the frustration. But the complete and total reinterpretation of what college football, and the College Football Playoff, is about, to me, has been truly astonishing,” Finebaum said.

“I never get too upset, or maybe upset at all, about what I read on Twitter, because I realize those are people who can’t get into your show, or any other show, just expressing themselves. But more from just, people in the industry, people who do understand how the CFP is developed and designed. To me, it is just complete and unadulterated fake outrage. It’s part of where we are in society, where people without any facts, without any information, just gravitate to an issue, embrace it, squeeze it and just regurgitate whatever the talking points are. I’m glad we’re not eight days past it. But it’s still out there, and I think it’s one of those narratives that just simply gets created, and never leaves. It doesn’t matter whether it’s true or not.”
