Florida State defensive back Malik Feaster has yet to crack the rotation for the Seminoles as a fifth-year senior, but the four-year contributor at Jacksonville State is putting in the work and ready to hear his number called. But according to FSU head coach Mike Norvell, it’s a matter of figuring out how best to use Feaster in their system.

With the ‘Noles kicking off the season during Week 0, that meant one more bye week than most teams. So they had an early one in Week 2, allowing Norvell and staff to regroup and re-assess the roster after a 2-0 start that saw a fair share of ups and downs.

So, this week at practice, Feaster is finally sneaking into the rotation. That was the update Norvell gave after practice on Monday:

“Today he is. And so, you take into account some guys, young guys, newcomers in the program. Last week, that was important. As guys that were, you know, trying to get back healthy and to continue growth.”

Norvell continued, outlining the coaching staff’s goals for Feaster.

“But guys like Malik that we’re trying to establish…what his role is, what is his identity going to be? Last week, guys asked about Darion Williamson. You know, he was hurt during fall camp and unavailable. But for a handful of days, I mean, he got better. “

Despite little playing time in the first two outings of the year, Mike Norvell is confident Malik Feaster will be prepared to contribute no matter if, when and where he is thrown in at Louisville Friday night.

“With last week, you know, he’s going to make an impact on whatever that role is. Friday night (night of the Louisville game), he’s put himself in a position, through the consistency, through the work. And I mean, Malik, different guys like that, are also in that same kind of category. So, you know, it’s been really good to see some of those guys emerge and you know we’ll see where that role goes throughout the rest of this week.”
