Florida State was missing its top receiver in last week’s win against Pittsburgh as Keon Coleman sat out with injury. He was one of multiple Seminoles pass catchers who were unable to go along with Johnny Wilson, Hykeem Williams and Deuce Spann.

With a matchup against Miami looming this week, FSU is hopeful that Coleman can make his return to the field. Seminoles coach Mike Norvell offered an update on where the receiver is at during a meeting with the media on Wednesday.

“He’s doing good,” the coach said. “We’re obviously continuing to see as guys progress during the week exactly where they’ll be at. But I think we’re seeing positive strides with a lot of guys.”

Coleman has been the top target for quarterback Jordan Travis this season. He leads the team with 38 catches for 538 yards and nine touchdowns across eight games. With the other three receiver’s status also in question for this week, getting Coleman back would be a pivotal development for the Florida State offense.

On the other side of the ball, defensive back Jarrian Jones also missed the game against Pitt after suffering an injury in Week 9 against Wake Forest. Norvell also addressed his status for this week, indicating that he has made some progress and has a chance to get back.

“Jarrian Jones was out last week and he’s gotten back and looking good,” Norvell said. “So I think we’re trending the right way and we’ll see where it is as we get closer to kickoff.”

Jones has been a starter for the Seminoles this season and brings a veteran presence in the secondary. He returned an interception for a touchdown in Week 2 against Southern Miss. So far this season he has recorded 18 tackles (one for loss) and two passes defended in addition to the interception.

With Florida State entering a critical stretch of the season, it will want to make sure it can get its team as healthy as possible soon. The Seminoles are currently undefeated and ranked No. 4 in the College Football Playoff with three games remaining in the regular schedule.

It is believed that FSU would need to finish out the season as an undefeated ACC champ to retain that spot, so getting players like Keon Coleman and Jones back from injury will certainly help.

We’ll see if they can give it a go when the Seminoles kick off against Miami at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday in Tallahassee.
