Mike Norvell Shares How Recruits Reacted To Florida State’s Playoff Snub | 12.20.23

In Florida State quarterback Brock Glenn’s second collegiate start, he will square off against the Georgia Bulldogs in the Orange Bowl. Most players would be nervous, even terrified. Glenn is excited, and head coach Mike Norvell is ecstatic for him.

“Brock, who started the [ACC] championship game for us, is going to be the starter here for the Orange Bowl,” Norvell said. “I’m definitely excited for him to take a step from his first start to his second start. A lot of confidence at what he’ll be able to do and what he’ll be able to accomplish. It’s part of the new age of college athletics and I know Brock is fired up and excited for the opportunity that he has.”

Before the ACC Championship, Glenn only had three appearances. In his limited minutes, he had two completions on four pass attempts for a total of 35 yards. Nonetheless, after both Jordan Travis and Tate Rodemaker were sidelined by injuries, Glenn was shoved into the spotlight.

Brock Glenn rises to the occasion

In the win, Glenn completed 8-of-his-21 pass attempts for 55 yards. He did not throw a touchdown and suffered four sacks. While his performance didn’t break any records, it boosted his team to the win. Norvell was proud of his freshman’s poise under pressure.

“It was remarkable,” Norvell said after the game. “To be able to go in there — that’s the thing, he’s a true freshman, but he missed the better part of the middle of the season due to injury. He’s got great confidence. He’s going to be a special player. I’ve got a lot of confidence in where his career is going.

“He does have poise, and he’s able to go out there and execute. We put a lot on our quarterbacks, and he embraces that, as well. For a freshman just to get his first start in the ACC Championship game, I don’t think that’s happened in, what was it, 20-something years for a first-time starting quarterback? Two times in the last 20 years that that’s had to show up, and we got it done.”

It won’t be easy for Glenn to get it done again. Georgia boasts the No. 10 defense in the nation, allowing just 295.2 yards per game. For reference, Louisville, whom Glenn defeated in his first start, has the No. 16 defense in the country. Norvell is hopeful Glenn’s second start will be even better than his first.

FSU and Georgia will go head-to-head at 4 p.m. ET on Dec. 30 in the Orange Bowl. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
