Roddy Jones Breaks Down How Florida State Approached Transfer Portal For 2024 | 04.05.24

It’s a new era under center for the Florida State Seminoles, with Jordan Travis moving on from the program following the 2023 season. Now, it’s the job of head coach Mike Norvell to find the quarterback to lead the offense moving forward.

Over the offseason, Norvell brought in an experienced quarterback in DJ Uiagalelei who is working alongside the young Brock Glenn in the quarterback room. Amid Spring practice, Norvell provided his thoughts on how those two quarterbacks have been performing.

“I thought he [Uiagalelei] had a really good scrimmage,” Mike Norvell said. “Then, today, I thought I saw some really good things. Excited.”

Florida State is DJ Uiagalelei’s third college team. He started his career at Clemson as a five-star recruit in the Class of 2020. He spent three seasons there and was the starter for two seasons before he transferred to be the starter at Oregon State. 2023 will be his fifth season.

Brock Glenn, meanwhile, is coming off his freshman season, after coming to Florida State as a three-star recruit in the Class of 2023. He played in five games, largely due to injury during the seasons. During that time, he completed 37.3 percent of passes for 229 yards.

“I thought Brock, it’s fun to see him growing up into the second year and just where he’s at. That steady progress, that steady growth. I thought both of those guys did some good things today.”

The presumption for Florida State going into 2024 is that Mike Norvell is going to have DJ Uiagalelei start for the Seminoles. Throughout that time, Uiagalelei can help mentor Glenn as he continues to develop for the future of the position in Tallahassee.

Mike Norvell shares how much ACC lawsuit impacts Florida State program

There are currently tensions between Florida State and the ACC, with each bringing lawsuits against the other over the conference’s Grant of Rights and Florida State’s desire to leave. However, as Mike Norvell explained this Spring, it’s not a concern for the football team.

“No, it’s not,” Mike Norvell said. “That’s not anything for our players to be concerned with. I mean, right now, it’s about today. It’s about the opportunity that we have to go get better.”

So, for the time being, Florida State shouldn’t be impacted on the field by the lawsuit. Instead, Norvell and the team are going to be focused on the task at hand and preparing for this season’s spring game.
