Bowl season benefits a lot of teams and players in several unique ways. These games are more than extra games. They’re also extra practice time and experience. This is the first year Florida State has been able to go to a bowl under head coach Mike Norvell, who explained how wide receiver Deuce Spann and tight end Jerrale Powers are benefiting from bowl season.

The topic came up while Mike Norvell was speaking to the media.

“I mean, both those guys showed up. I mean, throughout the season you see growth, but I think Deuce and Jerrale, they’re both going to be really good football players here,” Mike Norvell said.

“Like, I have no doubt about it, and to see them embrace the work, embrace the process, you know there’s still a lot of work [that] they have to do, but you see the flash of the potential, and I’m excited about what they’ve done.”

Mike Norvell was then asked a follow-up question about how Powers’ has been developing his body physically.

“Absolutely, I don’t have it off the top of my head, but he’s probably put on 15-something pounds. He’s getting stronger, getting more confidence,” Mike Norvell explained. “You know, he’s a high school receiver that played mostly flexed and that’s–you know, a lot that goes into playing that position, and like I said, there’s a lot of work that he has to do, but you’re starting to see just the confidence and even just the growth in his body, his strength, that’s evident out there in these last few practices and I’m proud of him.”

Florida State will play Oklahoma in the Cheez-It Bowl.

Mike Norvell praised his team for the postseason work

Along with Deuce Spann and Jerrale Powers, Mike Norvell praised the entire team for the work everyone is putting in this postseason.

“I thought today was a good work day to wrap up the weekend, really pushed guys the last couple days trying to ramp up the intensity, a little bit of the physicality, tried to create some situational work, two-minute, third downs, red zone, just try to stay sharp on base fundamentals,” Mike Norvell said.

“We really haven’t gotten a whole lot into Oklahoma or any of that, but we wanted these five days leading up to this break we’re gonna give the guys, we wanted that to really just focus on us.”
