Florida State fans got a taste of things to come on Saturday, as their players took the field for their annual spring game. While the Seminole faithful got to see many impressive plays, they also unfortunately had to watch several players leave the field with injuries, including wideout Malik Benson, who has been a star of the spring.

Luckily in the postgame press conference, FSU head coach Mike Norvell let Seminole fans know that he’s not too concerned on the injury front.

There were no updates on the injuries to Malik Benson, offensive lineman T.J. Ferguson, or running back Caziah Holmes. According to Warchant.com, Norvell noted that nothing looked “overly extensive”, but they will wait for further medical evaluations.

Norvell also mentioned Benson as one of the top players on the FSU roster after the spring. So, fans will continue to hope his injury isn’t significant.

Mike Norvell spoke with Pete Thamel ahead of the spring game

ESPN’s Pete Thamel tracked down Mike Norvell ahead of the spring game and got him to touch on a few topics before the players started scrimmaging.

He recently noted that Florida State’s practice on Thursday was one of his team’s best and most competitive that he’s had there during his time with the ‘Noles. What does that say about the squad he’s got heading into next year?

“Well, I think those are one of those identity practices. A lot of eyes go on today (spring game), but what are you gonna do building up to it? And these guys definitely didn’t try to get through it. They tried to get better. And you know, it was a very competitive day. I thought it was definitely a positive step to what we ultimately want to be. And now we get a chance to go compete today,” Norvell said.

How does the FSU head coach feel about his team in the spring?

“It’s been a great spring practice. A lot of speed. A lot of explosiveness. We’ve seen a lot of great playmaking ability. And now it’s time to go do it in front of our fans and on television. So, it’s great to see these guys continue to work and take another step,” Norvell said.

What was he looking forward to watching from D.J. Uiagalelei on Saturday? “He’s had a great spring. And he’s transitioned really well. Excited to see him come out and compete. Continue to get better. [It’s] kinda one of those things where you want to see some good and you want to see some things we can continue to coach and continue to help, grow with. That’s what we’re building towards, August. But he’s been remarkable. Really proud of him. Excited to see him go out there and play today,” the FSU head coach explained.
