Florida State receiver Mycah Pittman hit the media scrum this week for the Seminoles. It didn’t take long for reporters to ask the Oregon transfer about his connection to quarterback Jordan Travis.

“I love my boy J-Trav,” Pittman said. “On and off the field. He’s a great friend, great quarterback, he’s been super impressive. I told him, I haven’t seen a guy like him since J-Herb days, seriously, I’m not even trying to gas my guy up. He’s literally that impressive to me.

“Seeing the throws he makes, seeing what he can do on the run, seeing how agile and quick he is to get out of the pocket … it’s second to none. This man is super impressive and I’m here to help him and help him win some football games.”

The FSU receiver comparing Travis to former Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert is a good sign. Herbert was a first-rounder and the No. 6 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft after going 27-8 in his final three seasons with the Ducks.

Last season, Travis had a 62.9% completion rate with 1,539 passing yards, 530 rushing yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Pittman is just one piece Travis has to work with this season. To speed up the offensive turnaround, head coach Mike Norvell also added Arizona State transfer Johnny WilsonIllinois receiver Deuce Spann and West Virginia receiver Winston Wright. FSU also brings back last season’s leading receiver Ontaria Wilson, who finished with 23 catches for 382 yards and five scores.

Pittman looking to make impact for Seminoles

Although Mycah Pittman got off to a rocky start early in camp, he appears to be finding his footing of late. After a fall camp practice, Norvell took the time to praise Pittman for his improved play.

“He showed up big,” Norvell said. “Had some great catches. He’s a very talented young man. Had some inconsistent moments to his standards here in camp, but he’s really responding well. I think the last couple of days have been trending upwards for him. Made some big plays down the field and then today I thought he was all over the place making plays. He had a couple touchdowns, red zone, all those things. It was good.”

Pittman announced that he was leaving Oregon midway through the 2021 season after having appeared in seven games. At the time he made his decision, he had recorded 197 yards receiving on 12 catches. His best year with the Ducks came as a freshman in 2019 when he finished with 18 catches for 227 yards and two touchdowns.
