From May 27-October 25, Julian Humphrey was committed to Florida. Towards the end of that commitment, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound four-star out of Houston Clear Lake started thinking hard about Georgia.

The interest in the Bulldogs started over the summer when Humprey first spent time in Athens. When the no. 101 prospect in the Consensus Rankings returned for his official visit (Oct. 1), he knew Georgia was for him.

“On my first visit, I liked the vibe and the coaches were great, so that was big for me with Georgia,” Humphrey said. “I had a great feeling about Georgia then and was the same until my official visit.

“On my official visit, I felt at home, I loved all the people, and I knew I was going to Georgia then. Everyone is genuine at Georgia. The coaches are real guys. I have things in common with the players.

“Georgia is the spot for me.”

The experience at Georgia played a big role in Humphrey’s commitment

Kirby Smart is the head coach with a background as a defensive coordinator. Jahmile Addae is the defensive backs coach. Will Muschamp is a defensive analyst on the staff with head coaching and defensive coordinator experience.

That trio, and their knowledge, was key in this decision.

“If you want to be the best, then you have to play with the best, and play for the best,” Humphrey said. “At Georgia, I will be playing for a great school with great coaches.

“Coach Smart, coach Muschamp, and coach Addae have all coached great players. They have all coached top draft picks and they know how to coach and develop players.

“I am close to all of them, I know they will coach me up, and their experience will help me a lot.”

Humphrey has developed a strong bond with each of the coaches, but Muschamp and he connected on a different level.

“I am probably closest with coach Will. He is just a great guy that has always been checking on me and my family since the summer.

“He checks on me, he talks Georgia with me, he is recruiting me, and he is teaching me. Coach Will cares about me and he was part of this decision for me.”

Humphrey loves Georgia’s recruiting class, and future

Georgia is 8-0 and no. 1 in the country right now, and their recruiting class is expected to challenge for that ranking come early February.

After Humphrey’s commitment, Georgia has 22 commitments and he is excited about what the staff is Athens is doing this cycle.

“The recruiting class is going to be amazing,” Humphrey said. “What we have now on offense and defense, then what we are going to be adding, will be amazing.

“We have top offensive linemen, top defensive linemen, top defensive backs, a top tight end, top running backs, and we are going to be getting more.

“This recruiting class is going to be crazy good.”

Humphrey had a lot of the same feelings about the team. It is playing at a high level this season and he does not see that changing.

“The future at Georgia is going to be really good. I can’t wait to get there in January and start learning, working with the coaches, and getting to be a part of the team.

“The fans at Georgia are great, and they are going to have a lot to cheer for. They love Georgia and we are going to be a great team in the future.

“I am excited to be a part of it.”

Smart, Muschamp, Addae, and the coaches in Athens feel the same about having Humphrey. While still committed to Florida, Humphrey told Georgia about his commitment at the end of his official visit.

Their reaction showed him how important he was to them.

“Coach Smart was who I told first and he jumped up with excitement. Then I went down at told coach Muschamp and coach Addae — both went crazy.

“They all told me to take my time and do what is right for me. They were so fired up, but they wanted what was best for me.

“It is a great feeling to be committed to Georgia.”
