Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley four-star defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett took his third official visit to Georgia, and came away feeling like it was the place for him.

He has previously been to Auburn and North Carolina, and still had a visit scheduled to Texas A&M. He took the visit to College Station, Texas, which just confirmed his suspicions.

“I felt really good about Georgia after my official visit,” Jarrett told On3. “I knew I liked it a lot, the coaches are great, and I liked the atmosphere around the players. After that, I wanted to take my other official visits to make sure, so about a week after my last visit, I made my final decision. That is when I knew 100% it was Georgia.”

Jarrett made the news official Tuesday with his commitment announcement, joining the highly-ranked Georgia class.

He said the Bulldogs are the best fit for him.

“Georgia just nailed everything for me,” Jarrett said. “I had a checklist of questions for coaches as I went into my official visits, and after the intro at Georgia. I didn’t have any. From the player development, the education, the student life, where I would live, and everything else. Georgia just checked all the boxes for me.”

The recent success of the Bulldogs is a major draw for Jarrett. He is a big believer in what Kirby Smart is building.

“Georgia is coming off a national championship,” Jarrett said. “Coach Kirby Smart is a winner. He has a great history as a defensive coordinator and now as a head coach at Georgia. He has always been a winner. I like that about him and his style of coaching. He has a lot of energy, he is all about defense, and the players love playing for him. Then you have the stability. Coach Smart loves Georgia. He is still young, he is not going anywhere, and he wants to keep winning for a long time at Georgia.”

Jamaal Jarrett is a Jordan Davis-like player

Jamaal Jarrett is the No. 154 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He also really likes defensive line coach Tray Scott.

“There is so much I love about coach Tray Scott,” Jarrett said. “He has no filter. He keeps it real. I know he wants the best for me. He made it clear about the work that I will have to put in at Georgia. We went over film and he would talk about the good things, but then he would talk about the things I need to work on. I love how coach Scott always keeps it real. I love him, my parents love him, and he is like an uncle to me. It wasn’t all about football with him. We talked about life, school, and other things too. My relationship with him was key in my commitment.”

Jarrett has drawn some comparison to a fellow North Carolina defensive lineman Jordan Davis.

Davis talked with Jarrett in the lead up to this decision, and while Jarrett said it wasn’t a difference maker, he learned a good deal from the conversation.

“Jordan Davis was not a big part of my decision, but he is someone I listened to,” Jarrett said. “Georgia compared me to him and he is a Carolina guy that really told me a lot. He talked about what Georgia did for him, how they developed him, and how they made him better on and off the field. I learned about the Georgia family from him and I loved his story. He told his story, the reasons he chose Georgia, and it was great to see how everything played out for him. “
