UGA Football Could Sign INSANE Defensive Line Class | Georgia Bulldogs Recruiting

Nasir Johnson committed to Florida over Florida State and South Carolina back in June. The four-star defensive lineman out of Dublin (Ga.) had a slew of offers, including one from Georgia, but he felt best about the Gators.

That slowly changed this fall.

As the season progressed, Georgia started to pursue a little harder. The in-state program had the No. 171 prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings twice for games this fall. Johnson was in Athens for his official visit this past weekend and the Bulldogs did enough on that visit to change his mind.

Johnson has decommitted from Florida and committed to Georgia.

“Since early in the season, Georgia has been coming very strong,” Johnson told On3 earlier this fall. “They have been recruiting me really hard lately. Georgia wants me to be a part of the team, they want me to be a Dawg and it is a school I have to look at.

“I am from Georgia, they want to look after my family and Georgia is Georgia for me. I was a fan and it was my dream school at one time, so being a Georgia boy, I have to consider them.”

Johnson is Georgia’s 28th commitment this cycle. Kirby Smart’s recruiting class ranks No. 1 in the Team Rankings.

Georgia has a plan in place for Johnson

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound senior has talked about Georgia being home. He has talked more with the coaches the last couple of months. He has spent time in Athens. Tray Scott made him a priority and the two have established a relationship.

“He’s really cool and down to Earth,” Johnson told Jeremy Johnson of DawgsHQ. “We have been building a really close bond since he started recruiting me. He’s a cool dude.”

Scott and the staff in Athens laid out their plan to Johnson and it paid off for the Bulldogs.

“They say I’m like the ‘ATH’ of the defensive line and they could move me around. They’re telling me where I can play in that defense. They use a 4-3 defense and they use three different defensive linemen in my position.”

Johnson said a major reason for flipping his commitment to Georgia was that he can envision just what Georgia has in store for him — a three-year development track that hopefully leads to a career at the next level.

“I love my chances at UGA of being produced and being league-ready by at least year three,” Johnson said. “Nothing against Florida because they have been nothing but good to me since I’ve been committed. Schooling isn’t an issue because regardless, I’m going to get my degree. . . but sports-wise, you start to think long term which school would benefit you better and I see UGA is where I belong 100%.”
