Since de-committing from Ohio State August 1, Georgia has been the school trending for five-star cornerback Jaheim Singletary.

Florida and Miami were in the mix, and at different times, the Gators and Hurricanes had his attention, but the Bulldogs won out for the No. 19 player in the On3 Consensus Rankings.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound cornerback out of Jacksonville (Fla.) Riverside connected with head coach Kirby Smart and defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae, but it was another assistant that played a key role in this decision.

Will Muschamp (defensive analyst) has been recruiting me since my freshman year,” Singletary said. “South Carolina was one of my first offers, and he was the head coach there.

“He was recruiting me there first and we connected. I was looking at South Carolina hard while he was the head coach there. He is a great defensive coach, he is smart about guys at my position, and we have a great relationship.

“Coach Muschamp going to Georgia was big. I already liked them, but I liked them, even more, when he got there. He is big in my interest in Georgia.”

Singletary likes the fit at Georgia

The new Georgia commit has taken numerous visits to Athens since June 1. His official visit was early in the summer, then he has taken a few unofficial visits since. Singletary is pushing half a dozen visits to the Georgia campus.

“I have liked the vibe at Georgia since my first visit there,” Singletary said. “Coach Kirby keeps it real. He is genuine, the people are genuine, and I like the fit for me there.”

The staff, starting with Smart, and on down, captured Singletary’s attention. He likes Georgia’s style of play and he feels all the experience they have will prepare him for his ultimate goal.

“Coach Smart, coach Muschamp, coach Addae, and some others at Georgia know defensive backs. I know I will get great coaching there. I want to get to the NFL, and I think they can help me get there.

“They play hard, they practice hard, and they push each other. I like what Georgia does. And with their knowledge to make me better, it is a great place for me.”

On3 Scouting Report

“A tall, lean ball-hawking cornerback. Uses his 6-foot-2.5 stature, 33-inch arms, and bouncy athleticism to make plays on the ball at a high rate,” said On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power. “Looks like a wide receiver playing corner when the ball is in the air with his ability to extend and high-point.

“Unsurprisingly also doubles as a talented wide receiver for his high school team. Plays with physicality both as a run defender and in press situations. Has above average, not great long speed for the position. Grew over an inch between his junior and senior years.”
