Montgomery (Ala.) four-star running back Anthony Rogers is Alabama’s longest standing commitment dating back to June of last year.

He committed to the Crimson Tide staff under Nick Saban, but chose not to decommit when Saban retired in January and Kalen DeBoer replaced him.

But after visiting Alabama for last month’s junior day, Rogers told BamaOnLine that his recruitment was still open. He visited Auburn earlier this month, and on Saturday he took a trip to Georgia — his first in more than a year.

Georgia running backs coach Josh Crawford has been pushing hard for Rogers since taking over for Dell McGee, and he made a good first impression in-person on Rogers.

“He seems great like a great guy,” Rogers told DawgsHQ of Crawford. “I went in and saw him in meetings yesterday. He seems like he has a great relationship with the backs there and he knows what he’s doing.”

Rogers still feeling good about Alabama pledge

Despite the upheaval at Alabama, Rogers still feels good about his early decision to commit to the Tide. His choice to visit other programs is solely to make sure he comes to the best final decision possible.

DeBoer retaining running backs coach Robert Gillespie is a key piece of that.

“I’m still committed to Bama. I’m just hoping to see what other schools have to say,” Rogers told BamaOnLine. “Coach G would be one of the main reasons [I’m still committed]. We’ve had a good relationship since early in my career. I believe in what he does.”

Rogers is still in regular communication with the new coaching staff, too.

“It’s going pretty good. Pretty much the same way it’s been. Just staying in touch with each other,” Rogers said of Gillespie. “Like I said, we’ve been in touch since early in my recruitment. One of the first coaches I talked to. He believed in me then, and he keeps believing in me now.

He doesn’t currently have any more unofficial or official visits planned, but does have an idea when he’ll know for sure what his future plans are.

“I should have my mind made up mid-season,” Rogers said. “I just want to see how everything goes and just make sure I’m making the right decision. I’m looking at how the offense is run, and how I’d be able to fit into the scheme.”
