Kirby Smart is no stranger to criticism when it comes to his decisions regarding Georgia’s quarterbacks. In the past, he was panned for starting Jake Fromm over star recruit Justin Fields. Now, he’s getting heat for his infatuation with Stetson Bennett.

Bennett had done enough to get the Bulldogs to the SEC Championship Game, but once Georgia fell behind he was unable to lead them to victory. It’s not his game — Bennett isn’t the flashy, play-making quarterback Alabama’s Bryce Young is.

However, many believe backup J.T. Daniels is. Naturally, the burning question has become one of bewilderment — why didn’t Smart bring Daniels into the game?

After the disappointing loss, it was the singular question on every Georgia fans’ mind. Heck, even former players are wondering — former Bulldogs defensive back Davin Bellamy took to Twitter to pan Smart’s decision.

“Stetson hasn’t played terrible, but when you play Bama you need a more of prototypical QB that can make all the throws,” tweeted Bellamy. “Cause you’re not running the ball. A game manger not going to cut it.”

Moreover, Bellamy referenced an older tweet where he clamored for Daniels to get more work. “Remember the J.T. Daniels tweet?” wrote Bellamy.

“Should we work JT Daniels back into the rotation?, tweeted Bellamy, back in October. “We may need him for the long run!”

Whether he’s Nostradamus or part of Bulldogs faithful who wants a championship, it’s tough to argue with Bellamy. If Georgia misses out of their chance at a title, Kirby Smart will have to answer some tough questions regarding his quarterbacks.

Kirby Smart sticks with Stetson Bennett in SEC Championship

Georgia fans waited for Kirby Smart to pull the trigger on a move at quarterback on Saturday. The move never came, as Stetson Bennett finished out one of the worst games of his career.

Alabama tortured Bennett, forcing two interceptions out of the Georgia quarterback. Moreover, Bennett couldn’t lead the Bulldogs back into the game as Young was throwing touchdowns to Jameson Williams.

Instead of panning Bennett for his play, Smart stated that he has the utmost confidence in his quarterback following the loss.

“We have a decision to make every week at every position,” Smart said. “I have the utmost confidence in Stetson Bennett. I thought he did some really nice things tonight. We go over and re-evaluate everything all the time. He played well. I certainly have a lot of confidence in Stetson and I have a lot of confidence in J.T. (Daniels) too.”

Georgia will undoubtedly still make the College Football Playoff. However, they won’t have anymore second chances if they put up another terrible performance like they did on Saturday.
