After celebrating Georgia’s national championship victory over Alabama last week, Bulldogs long snapper William Mote found himself in trouble with the law.

Mote faces a criminal damage to property charge after he was arrested last week, according to the Athens Banner-Herald’s Marc Weiszer. He allegedly broke a window of a law office at around 5 a.m. on Jan. 12 in downtown Athens.

The Banner-Herald reported Mote told police he was intoxicated after spending time at a local bar. He went to see a friend, but ended up at the law office.

Police said a burglar alarm went off because of the broken window, and an officer saw a male in a hoodie kicking the public defender’s door. Mote denied breaking the window, but was still charged because he was still damaging property, the incident report said.

He was released on a $1,300 bond.

Mote has been Georgia’s long snapper for the last two seasons. He’s a walk-on from Hoover, Alabama.

Georgia snaps national title drought

Georgia ended a 41-year title drought when it defeated Alabama 33-18 in the College Football Playoff national championship on Jan. 10. The Crimson Tide led the game at halftime, but the Bulldogs offense — led by quarterback Stetson Bennett — kicked it into gear to lead the way to victory.

Bennett shook a shaky start to go 17 for 26 for 224 yards and two touchdowns. Georgia led 13-9 heading into the fourth quarter and proceeded to score 20 points in the final stanza to pull away from a powerful Alabama offense. Bennett earned Offensive Player of the Game honors for his efforts.

Zamir White led the charge for the Bulldogs on the ground, taking 13 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown. James Cook had six carries for 77 yards, including a 67-yard rush in the third quarter.

It was sweet revenge for Georgia, which lost to Alabama 41-24 in the SEC Championship in December.
