Thanks to a seemingly never-ending string of departures, it looks Mike White is going to build his new Georgia roster from the ground up. Senior shooting guard Noah Baumann hit the transfer portal on Monday as the ninth Bulldogs transfer since the end of the season, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz.

Baumann, who finished fifth for Tom Crean in points in 2021, is looking to move on to the fourth program of his collegiate career.

The Pheonix, Arizona, native started playing for two seasons at San Jose State before transferring to USC. He sat one season, per previous NCAA guidelines, and went on to contribute 11 minutes per game for the Trojans. He then entered the transfer portal again and landed in Athens. Baumann was immediately eligible and factored in right away, making 20 of 31 starts.

This season, he posted 8.1 points per game with 3.5 rebounds and .9 assists. He shot 42.5% from the field and 40.7% from three-point range. His 59 three-pointers were first on the team in 2021.

Baumann joins eight Bulldogs in transfer portal

The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at the Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.

The process of entering the portal goes through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request.

Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship is no longer valid. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school does not have to reoffer a scholarship.
