Standout Kent State wide receiver Dante Cephas — one of the hundreds of college football players in the transfer portal — tweeted on Tuesday that Georgia has extended a scholarship offer. Cephas has multiple years of eligibility remaining.

Cephas caught 48 passes for 744 yards and three touchdowns in 2022 — though he appeared in just nine games. In the Golden Flashes game against Georgia, Cephas caught three passes for 25 yards. His 2021 campaign was his best, to date: 82 catches, 1240 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games.

In 30 career games, Cephas has 145 catches for 2139 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Cephas is in the portal the same week that it was reported that Kent State head coach Sean Lewis was headed to Colorado to be offensive coordinator under Deion Sanders.

Cephas isn’t the only Kent State departure with Lewis leaving to become Colorado offensive coordinator

According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, Kent State head coach Sean Lewis will be leaving the MAC program to work with new Colorado head coach Deion Sanders. Lewis will become the offensive coordinator in Boulder, being another person involved with the Buffaloes making a jump to the Power Five level.

“Sources: Kent (State) Coach Sean Lewis is leaving for Colorado to take the offensive coordinator job,” Thamel said via Twitter.

Lewis has been a Power Five coordinator before, working with Syracuse in 2016 and 2017 as the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He then left in favor of the Kent State job, spending the past five seasons as the head coach.

The best offensive output from Lewis came during the 2020 season, being the top-scoring team in the country. Kent State scored 49.8 points per game, although in just four games due to a shortened COVID-19 year.

Arguably more impressive for Lewis, though, is what he did overall with the Kent State program. Being around since the 1960s, the Golden Flashes only have four bowl appearances to their name. Two are thanks to Lewis, guiding them to the Frisco Bowl in 2019 and Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in 2021.
