Georgia offensive lineman Justin Shaffer set out to protect the Bulldogs quarterbacks and make room for their running backs. At the end of his time at Georgia, he accomplished his mission — landing the Bulldogs a national championship in his final game with the program.

On Monday, Shaffer made it official. The offensive lineman announced on social media he was entering the 2022 NFL Draft.

“Dawg Nation, first I would like to thank the man above, without him I would not be the man I am today,” started Shaffer. “I also would like to thank Coach Smart and the University of Georgia for giving me the opportunity to be a student athlete at the best university in the nation.”

“To my family and friends, I appreciate all the love and support you have shown me in my time at UGA.

“My goal was to graduate and leave the Georgia football program better then I found it. I have accomplish both of those goals in my time here.

“To my teammates, my brothers, I will cherish all the time and moments we have had together. Those times and bonds will never be forgotten.

“It is at this time, and after careful consideration, I am excited to announce that I am officially declaring for the NFL Draft. 54 out.”

In Georgia’s championship season, Shaffer earned a nod on the All-SEC second team. Justin Shaffer helped end the Georgia drought, and now he’ll look to be an impact player at the next level.

More on Justin Shaffer, Bulldogs entering the NFL Draft

Furthermore, Justin Shaffer is joining a long line of Bulldogs choosing to move on to the next chapter of their football careers. Earlier this week, multiple stars revealed their intentions to take their talents to the next level.

On the defensive side of the football, linebacker Nakobe Dean and defensive back Lewis Cine have decided to move on. Additionally, defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt is also opting for the NFL Draft. If the Bulldogs want to replicate their success, the team is going to have to find suitable replacements all over the unit.

On the offensive side of the ball, star wide receiver George Pickens announced he was entering the 2022 NFL Draft. While he missed most of the season with an injury, Pickens made a return in time to be on the field for Georgia when it mattered most. It was a storybook ending to a nightmare season for Pickens.

However, at least two Georgia stars are staying in Athens. First, Georgia safety Tykee Smith announced he was returning to Georgia for one more season on Sunday. Then, linebacker Nolan Smith followed suit on Monday. As you can see, the Bulldogs won’t have to replace everyone.

Still, from Dean to Pickens to Shaffer, Georgia has plenty of holes to fill. Nevertheless, the Bulldogs and Justin Shaffer will enjoy their accomplishment while looking towards their futures.
