Dominick Blaylock‘s college football journey hasn’t been the easiest, but the Georgia wide receiver is still putting in the proper work and is expected to have a big season for the defending national champion Bulldogs in 2022.

After a strong freshman season in 2019, Blaylock – a former On3 Consensus four-star recruit who made 18 receptions for 310 yards and five touchdowns that year – suffered a knee injury during practice in 2020 and was forced to miss the entire season, and most of the 2021 campaign. Now, the wideout is back on the field and preparing to make a big comeback with the Bulldogs.

Meeting with reporters last week, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was asked about Blaylock’s return – saying that the wide receiver has put in the work to get back.

“He’s wired the right way,” Smart said of Blaylock. “This kid came up tough. He’s had two older brothers that helped toughen him up. He didn’t grow up soft. He’s not afraid of contact. He never complains – he just doesn’t complain. If anyone had something to complain about, it’d be him. All he does is work.

“He’s probably still not to his electric in terms of vertical speed, but he’s a really savvy route runner, he does really well in the slot. He’s getting better and he’s getting more confidence in that knee. I’m excited to see where he goes. But more than anything, I’m excited to see him to get out there and play because our team takes on a lot of his resiliency DNA. … It’s something we sell our players on.”

Blaylock, a 6-foot-1 receiver, prepped at Walton High School in Marietta, Georgia. Ranked as the seventh-best wide receiver by the On3 Consensus coming out of the Class of 2019, Blaylock committed to the Bulldogs over offers from Alabama, Oklahoma, Michigan, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee and Ohio State, among many others.
