All offseason, Georgia has been surrounded by talk of the back-to-back national championships. While it’s still true, head coach Kirby Smart likely threw it out the window on Wednesday. Fall practice has begun in Athens as the season draws closer.

Unfortuneately, a few Bulldog players are dealing with some injuries. Smart provided an update on a few guys, beginning with linebacker Smael Mondon and running back Branson Robinson. He said both are out on the field running but cannot be considered full participants quite yet.

However, some positive news is their rehab timeline was provided. Compared to just over a month ago, both Mondon and Robinson are “ahead of the schedule we thought” according to Smart. Definitely a step in the right direction for two players looking to contribute during the 2023 season.

Robinson got plenty of touches as a true freshman, earning 68 carries. He rushed for a total of 330 yards — good enough for fourth — while adding three touchdowns. Georgia has constantly been a running back by committee design under Smart but Robinson should see his role increase.

As for Mondon, he was the Bulldogs’ leading tackler from last season. He finished with 76 with eight tackles for a loss and a sack. When dropping into coverage, Mondon secured one interception and one pass defended.

Kirby Smart provides update on Mykel Williams

One of the more important updates Smart provided was on Mykel Williams. A stud coming out of high school, Williams is projected to have a big season for Georgia. However, for the time being, he is not a full-go in practice. Thankfully, it’s still early.

Smart said Williams will be a part of practice but is just not back to 100%.

Williams was a disruptive force on the line of scrimmage during the 2022 national championship season, getting 6.5 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks. He wound up totaling 28 tackles — having a great freshman season.

Now, he is expected to be one of the best defensive players in the SEC. Williams was voted a preseason All-SEC performer by the media at SEC Media Days — big expectations ahead. But first getting back to 100% health is priority No. 1.

Ty Ingram-Dawkins has stress fracture in foot

The final update Smart gave was on Ty Ingram-Dawkins. The defensive lineman has a stress fracture in his foot, keeping him out of practice. An injury to monitor moving forward for Georgia.
