Georgia has made it official. After Todd Monken’s departure for the NFL, Mike Bobo is taking over as offensive coordinator.

Kirby Smart made the announcement Tuesday morning and provided a statement on the transition. Monken is heading back to the NFL, where he spent four seasons before taking over at Georgia in 2019, and Bobo will take back the role he held from 2007-14 at his alma mater.

“We are extremely thankful and appreciative of the three years Todd and his wife, Terri, have spent with our UGA family,” Smart said in a statement. “We wish them the best as he moves on to the Ravens organization.”

“I am excited to name Mike Bobo our next Offensive Coordinator. Mike has a decade of experience as a successful SEC play-caller and over 20 years spent at UGA, both as a player and coach. Mike was an excellent addition to our staff last year as an analyst, and we are looking forward to his expanded leadership on the offensive side of the ball.”

Bobo left after the 2014 season to become the head coach at Colorado State, where he worked from 2015-19 and amassed a 28-35 overall record and a 20-20 mark in Mountain West action. After parting ways with the Rams, he spent a year as the offensive coordinator and eventually interim head coach at South Carolina in 2020. From there, he went to Auburn under Bryan Harsin, where he spent 2021 before his firing after the season.

Monken’s name has been a hot one in league circles this offseason after helping the Bulldogs to their second consecutive national championship. He also interviewed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, for whom he worked from 2016-18 before arriving in Athens.

Since taking over at Georgia, Monken helped the Bulldogs to two straight national championships, including the program’s first in 40 years. He also played a key role in the development of Stetson Bennett, who became a Heisman Trophy finalist and won both titles for Georgia at quarterback.
