Georgia wide receiver Dominick Blaylock has dealt with injuries multiple times over the past two years, and now hopes to make a healthy return for the 2022 season. As the Bulldogs look to defend a national championship, his health in a young position group could prove important.

During his Tuesday press conference, Kirby Smart addressed the progress and resilience of Dominick Blaylock after dealing with multiple injuries throughout his college career.

“He’s doing well,” said Smart. “He’s been pretty consistent, the offseason program was good for him in terms of getting confidence, change of direction, doing some things well. I think he’d be the first to tell you, he’s still rusty but he’s so confident with the ball in his hands. He catches the ball really well, he’s smart, he’s a very savvy route runner in the slot. He’s done a tremendous job there, he’s been back catching punts as well and he brings some veteran experience – really, right now anyone with experience at wide receiver is a veteran because we don’t have many guys with a lot of experience there.

“He’s done a tremendous job. Dom never complains, he just works. He handles the cards he’s been dealt really well. And he’s dealt with some really tough resiliency, but he has overcome it. I’ve been really proud of Dom.”

Over his three seasons at Georgia, Blaylock has appeared in just 14 games, missing the entire 2020 season. He has 20 receptions for 321 yards and five touchdowns, with most of his production coming in his freshman year. Blaylock also returns punts and could make his way back into the special teams lineup.

Kirby Smart calls out Georgia players

Coming off a national championship win, Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart seems less than pleased with his team thus far. He’s been critical of effort and even leadership within the program, wanting his players to step up in that regard.

After Tuesday’s spring practice, Smart decided to call out his players once again, saying there has been a lack of energy when the sled gets tough. However, he did decide to praise some of the new coaches on staff, saying even though they’re new to Georgia, they have done a good job after just two sessions.

“I think they’re trying to figure out where they’re going right now because we got a lot of drills, a lot of things going on in practice right now,” Smart said about the new coaches. “They’re still getting their feet wet. They’ve had four days to do that, to figure out where they’re going, how we do it, what the expectation is.

“What I like about all of them is that they’re enthusiastic and good leaders and I want their players to take on the personality of the coaches and there’s certainly been great energy out of those coaches. We got to get a little more energy out of our players when things get tough in practice but that’s the responsibility of the coaches. I’m very proud and pleased of what the guys have done.”
