Georgia defensive lineman Jordan Davis garnered the attention of many with his NFL Combine performance Saturday, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The former Miami Hurricanes defensive tackle and WWE wrestler turned movie star took to Twitter after Davis ran a 4.78 in the 40-yard dash to put that number in perspective.

“4.8 40 is fast,” Johnson wrote. “4.8 40 at 341 pounds in holy s*** fast. Great run big man, can’t wait to see you wreak havoc!”

At 6-foot-6, 341 pounds, Davis showed a combination of size and speed that will make him tough to block at the next level. His 40-yard dash time was faster than Patrick Mahomes (4.8) and his 10-yard split time of 1.68 beat out Cleveland Browns receiver Jarvis Landry (1.73), according to NFL research.

Davis was the 2021 winner of the Outland Trophy, given annually to college football’s top interior lineman, and the Chuck Bednarik Award, given annually to college football’s best defensive player. He was also a consensus first-team All American and a unanimous All-SEC selection. The Georgia defensive linemen finished this past season with 32 tackles (five for loss), and two sacks as the Bulldogs defeated Alabama in the national championship.

More than just The Rock impressed with Jordan Davis

The Rock wasn’t the only one to express his amazement at Jordan Davis, however. Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, who won Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021, also chimed in on the UGA big man’s eye-popping numbers.

Daniel Jeremiah, who is touted as one of the top talent evaluators and is on hand with the NFL.com crew said “I just got a text from a general manager that said ‘wow with three exclamation points about Jordan Davis.”

In his analysis of Davis, NFL draft analyst Lance Zurlein noted a keen ability to stop the run.

“Beefy, mountainous nose tackle with the size, power and will to clog the drain and alter the offense’s desire to run between the tackles,” Zurlein wrote. “Davis has anchor and quick-shed talent to eviscerate single blocks and successfully occupy double teams, allowing linebackers to thrive in pursuit of ball-carriers. He plays upright, lacking agility and reactive quickness to mark up a stat sheet with any consistency, but that’s not what he’s asked to do.”

The final line from Zuerlein is telling and exactly what the Bulldogs’ big man is attempting to defy with his impressive performance at the combine.

“Davis won’t be as effective against outside-zone teams and won’t offer much rush, but he could become one of the league’s best run-pluggers as soon as he takes the field.”
