Evans (Ga.) four-star interior offensive lineman Mason Short is in Athens visiting Georgia today.

Short — a former Alabama commit — named Georgia as one of his top four schools last month. Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart visited Short hours after he announced his decommitment from the Tide in January.

“They have told me they love my film this year,” Short told BamaOnLine in November regarding the UGA staff. “They’ll always tell me ‘You must think we’re stupid in believing you are going to sign with Alabama.’ They think they have a good chance to flip me.

“… I have a good relationship with Coach Searles and Coach Smart. Coach Smart calls me a lot. He texts me a lot. I am not only hearing from them; I hear it the hallways at my school from teachers and other students. I hear something about UGA at least once a day.”

Short is the nation’s No. 222 overall prospect, No. 13 interior offensive lineman and No. 30 recruit from Georgia in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Short discussed what stood out about each school with On3 last month.

Georgia: “They breed NFL guys every year and Coach Smart and Coach Searels want to coach me. They let it be known I’m a priority for them with the constant contact with me and my family. From the beginning of my recruitment, they let me know in the end I’ll be a Georgia Bulldog.”

Clemson: “Coach Swinney is as good as they get as a coach and a human being. And Coach Luke has one of the best track records for producing NFL linemen. And his way of coaching really stands out to me. As well as how his players respond to him.”

Ohio State: “Coach Frye and Coach Day are two amazing coaches and produce a lot of NFL talent and I know I will be developed there. They have a rich history of developing offensive linemen.”

Kentucky: “I appreciate the relationship Coach Wolfe has built with me in the past years. I know his way of coaching and his goal of developing guys into NFL talent and I’m looking forward to building my relationships at Kentucky.”
