After sealing the nation’s best recruiting class for the 2024 cycle, Kirby Smart and his staff are off to a hot start for 2025. The ‘Dawgs rank No. 3 in the 2025 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and are currently trending in the recruitments of a number of top prospects.

One such prospect is Evans (Ga.) four-star interior offensive lineman Mason Short. Short is the nation’s No. 194 overall prospect and No. 10 interior offensive lineman in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 27 recruit in Georgia.

Short decommitted from Alabama on Tuesday — days after legendary head coach Nick Saban retired from his post in Tuscaloosa. Kirby Smart wasted no time, making an appearance at Evans by helicopter to see Short.

“They have told me they love my film this year,” Short told BamaOnLine in November regarding the UGA staff. “They’ll always tell me ‘you must think we’re stupid in believing you are going to sign with Alabama.’ They think they have a good chance to flip me.

… I have a good relationship with Coach Searles and Coach Smart. Coach Smart calls me a lot. He texts me a lot. I am not only hearing from them; I hear it the hallways at my school from teachers and other students. I hear something about UGA at least once a day.”

Georgia leads with an 80.9% chance of landing Short, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Bulldogs recruiting insider Jeremy Johnson has logged an expert prediction with a 55% confidence level that Short will pick the Red and Black.
