Mike White reveals the impact of Terry Roberts' absence vs. Texas A&M

It’s been a rough few weeks for Georgia Men’s Basketball. They’re losers of four out the last five and haven’t won in regulation since mid-January. A bad streak only got worse last week when star guard Terry Roberts down during their midweek away loss to Auburn.

After the game, head coach Mike White came out an said they had to pull Roberts after he initially tried to keep playing.

“Terry Roberts got really banged up. We had to take him out of the game. He’s struggling,” White said. Roberts then missed the Bulldogs’ game this past weekend on the road against Texas A&M, where Georgia lost once again, by a score of 82-57.

So things are pretty dire in Athens with Roberts out. He’s their leading scorer, assist-getter, and according to White, their best perimeter defender as well. Not a guy you want to lose against an extremely physical and veteran A&M backcourt.

“He’s been our best player, obviously,” White shared after the A&M loss, when asked how Roberts’ absence impacted the game. “He orchestrates what we’re doing offensively and he’s been our best defender as well.”

But Mike White would rather not sit around eating sour grapes. Instead, he admitted that Roberts’ loss, while massive, was ultimately not the reason Georgia got beat badly on Saturday.

“That said, Terry Roberts not playing tonight is not why we lost the game,” White added. “They were terrific on the offensive glass — the difference in the game, in my opinion. They only got 15. They were loud. It just seemed like when we forced misses, when we had made a shot or made a couple shots in a row, it just seemed like they got all of those. They got the important ones offensively, and they converted a lot of them.”

Roberts is also a pretty strong rebounder at four per game, especially for a point guard, but the whole team got whupped on the glass against Texas A&M.
