Venice (Fla.) five-star EDGE Damon Wilson has locked in an official visit to Georgia, his father told BamaInsider’s Joseph Hastings.

Wilson previously visited the Bulldogs this summer for a multi-day unofficial visit in June, but will now return this upcoming weekend for Georgia’s game against Auburn.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder is one of the top targets still on the board for Kirby Smart and Co., who are battling Ohio State, Alabama and Miami for the nation’s No. 4 overall prospect in the 2023 On300 rankings.

The Bulldogs are considered slight favorites for Wilson by the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), which gives UGA a 36.0 percent chance of securing his commitment. Alabama (31.5%), Ohio State (17.4%) and Miami (11.3%) trail slightly behind.

“The message from Georgia right now is I’ll be able to contribute going into my first year and be able to be a playmaker on the team,” Wilson told On3’s Chad Simmons last month. “To me, that sounds like a good idea.”

Multiple things about the Bulldogs stand out to Wilson. One of the top reasons for his interest is outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe.

“He’s just a great person,” Wilson said. “Once I went out to eat with him, I just realized he’s a really good person, really personable. It didn’t feel like it was fake or anything like that. He really wanted to be there, get me better, get me to the next level and that was his goal.”

Damon Wilson Scouting Summary

“Disruptive pass rusher with one of the best first steps in the 2023 cycle. Bursts off the snap and is often in the backfield before opposing offensive linemen are out of their stance. Owns a solid build, checking in at nearly 6-foot-4, 230 pounds prior to his junior season with plus length for the position. Tests as a good athlete in the combine setting but plays quicker than his times indicate. Shows the ability to bend and dip around the edge, in addition to the outstanding first step.

… Plays for a top high school program in Florida. Turned in strong production with 15 sacks as a junior. Has added strength and checks in as one of the strongest EDGE defenders in the class in terms of weight room numbers. Highly technical and polished with his hands. Has few holes in his game and looks like one of the highest floor defenders in the cycle to go with substantial upside.”
