Stetson Bennett and Georgia Bulldogs offensive coordinator Todd Monken appear to have a solid relationship and are consistently on the same page. But that is only sometimes the case, as Bennett recently revealed. The Bulldogs’ star quarterback admitted that he and Monken butt heads. But that head-butting has helped in the growth of their relationship.

“Yeah, we butt heads. He benched me, and so that hurt. But now we’re cool. I think we’re better off for that, for sure,” said Bennett. “Going through all those ups and downs, trials and tribulations, and I mean the dude just knows how to prepare and knows how to call plays. I know he said, in a lot of his speeches, he’s given the credit to other people, and rightfully so. We’ve got a lot of good coaches who do a lot of good things. But it started changing when he got there.”

The Bulldogs’ staff and roster is chock full of talent. However, things are not executed on the field without the offensive coordinator’s ability to call plays and the quarterback’s ability to implement them. They might have their disagreements behind closed doors, but Bennett and Monken have done an impressive job this season, making Georgia’s offense one of the top ones in the nation.

“He’s intense, and he expects you to do right. Sometimes we don’t see it the same way. But at the end of the day, I know his goal, no matter what, bar none, is for us to score points. That’s his job, and he does that very well. When you can play for a guy like that, you got trust in the game plan. You’re not questioning the game plan… I just know what he calls usually works.”

Bennett defends Hendon Hooker amid Heisman Trophy uproar

The Georgia Bulldogs’ quarterback Stetson Bennett has been named a finalist for the 2022 Heisman Trophy, but not without some controversy. There has been a clamoring from folks that believe Bennett’s finalist spot should belong to Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Hendon Hooker.

With the programs being heated rivals, this could’ve been an opportunity for Bennett to claim another victory for the Bulldogs over the Volunteers. But the Georgia star elected to take the high road recently when asked about the Heisman controversy and even defended Hooker and the year he had.

“I don’t think it’s fair to Hendon. He’s a great player,” said Bennett. “I don’t think he should be spoken of in that light; he should be getting the respect for the year that he had. And not what could have been, but what was. He, almost not single-handedly, was the main factor in the program changing course.”

“As far as me getting hate for it, it doesn’t bother me really because I didn’t make that call.”
