Justin Scott almost committed last month. The No. 16 prospect in the On300 set a commitment date for his birthday, January 31. And Scott almost got there.

But as the date approached, the 6-foot-5, 310-pounder out of Chicago (Ill.) St. Ignatius called off his commitment. He needed more time.

Scott decided he wants to take visits first. He doesn’t have anything lined up for March yet, but he has scheduled his first official visit in April.

“I have locked in an official visit to Georgia on April 14-16,” Scott told On3.

If he doesn’t make it to Athens for an unofficial visit next month, this will be Scott’s first visit to Georgia. Defensive line coach Tray Scott attended a basketball game of Scott’s in January and that is when the Bulldogs stepped up their recruitment of the No. 2 defensive lineman in the country.

Scott has family in Georgia and the back-to-back national champions have his attention.

“They’ve just always been dominant, just won the 2023 national championship, back-to-back,” Scott recently told On3. “Coach Scott was just telling me how he doesn’t really leave the south to recruit, but when he sees someone that he wants, he will. That just made me feel like a priority because they got a lot of the talent in the south. He came all the way up here just to see me and offer me. It really meant something.”

Justin Scott On3 Scouting Summary

“Naturally-gifted defensive tackle with rare movement skills at 6-foot-5, 310 pounds. One of the more unique jumbo athletes early on in the 2024 cycle. A twitchy, explosive athlete who runs like a much smaller player. Chases down plays from the back side and runs sideline-to-sideline with ease. A loose, fluid mover with natural flexibility. Shows his natural explosion as a finisher.

“New to football, playing his first season at the varsity level as a sophomore. Has a background as a soccer and basketball player. Will need to continue developing from a technical aspect, particularly with his hands. Rapid ascension and quick improvement point to a high ceiling.”
