Georgia had their home opener on Saturday, getting a massive win over Samford. It was a routine win all in all for head coach Kirby Smart, improving to 2-0. However, there was some significant news on the injury front.

After the game, Smart said wide receiver A.D. Mitchell hurt his ankle on the first play of the afternoon. Georgia decided to keep him off the field for the rest of the game, wanting to be on the cautious side. Smart did say if Mitchell was needed, he would have been able to return in some capacity.

“He probably could’ve gone back in,” Smart said. “We held him.”

Mitchell is expected to be one of the top receivers for Georgia this season, connecting with quarterback Stetson Bennett. Having him injure himself when it’s not necessary, especially against a team such as Samford, would not be ideal. Either way, Smart purposefully held the wide receiver out as the rest of the 2022 season is more important.

JD PicKell says it’s time to start respecting Georgia QB Stetson Bennett

Stetson Bennett has been working his whole career to earn respect. After Bennett threw for a career-high 368 yards and two touchdowns in a 49-3 win against Oregon in Week 1, On3’s JD PicKell believes it’s time the Georgia quarterback finally gets some.

“With Stetson Bennett progressing, I think it’s time we start giving him the respect he’s due,” PicKell said in a recent YouTube video. “I will be the first to admit it: Going into this season, we probably know what Stetson Bennett is. We probably know what we have in him. He’s not gonna show us anything that’s gonna be that new, that groundbreaking.

“What does he do? Just goes out and has the best day of his career yardage-wise. Throws the ball all over the field. Shows you that he’s mobile. Shows you he can be a threat with his legs, which we sort of already knew. But he showed he even progressed in that manner and moving around in the pocket.”
