Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day four-star running back Anthony Carrie reopened his recruitment on Nov. 20 by decommitting from Michigan State. While the Spartans stayed involved, multiple schools began their push for the 5-foot-11, 195-pound tailback.

One of them was Georgia Tech, who hosted Carrie for an official visit on the weekend of Dec. 9. The Yellow Jackets ended up winning out for Carrie, who committed to head coach Brent Key and his staff over Texas A&M on National Signing Day.

“Other than the coaches, I picked Georgia Tech because of their need at the running back position, how I can get on the field early and then the city of Atlanta,” Carrie told On3. “I can do big things with my business, have opportunities for internships and open doors for my brand. It would be great to graduate with a degree from there too. That carries a lot of weight.”

Carrie, who has been to Georgia Tech between four and five times overall, first saw the program during his freshman year. Since then, the Yellow Jackets made a head coaching change from Geoff Collins to Key, who played guard for Georgia Tech from 1997-2000.

Georgia Tech’s coaches and location made the difference for Carrie

Key, co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Chris Weinke and running backs coach/run game coordinator Norval McKenzie have all been recruiting Carrie “for a while.” That effort was one of the key reasons why the No. 46 player in Florida decided to choose the ACC program.

“I like the staff, the coaches are cool and they have really recruited me as a group,” said Carrie, the No. 361 overall prospect and No. 27 running back in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. “I like how transparent they have been with me.”

“Coach Key is a coach I like a lot,” he added about Georgia Tech’s head man. “I like his approach to life, his morals and who he is. Who he is lines up a lot with who I am in my day-to-day life. That is a big thing. Coach Key is a great man outside of the football walls and that made a big impact on me.”

Carrie also likes the location of Georgia Tech. Its campus and home venue – Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field – are within two miles of downtown Atlanta.

“I like the city a lot,” Carrie said. “It is close to everything. I have never lived in a big city like that, so I like the atmosphere, how everything is right there and it would be great for the content that I create.”
