Miami Christopher Columbus three-star quarterback Alberto Mendoza has flipped his commitment from James Madison to Indiana, he announced on Monday.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder was committed to JMU since June 30, but is now following former JMU head coach and new Indiana skipper Curt Cignetti to Bloomington.

Mendoza is the No. 85 QB in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 199 player in Florida and the No. 1537 overall prospect.

He does not currently have an On3 NIL Valuation. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Indiana adds new signal-caller to 2024 recruiting class

With the addition of Mendoza, Indiana now has 13 commitments in its 2024 recruiting class. The pledge list ranks No. 62 in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

The Hoosiers’ class lost steam last week, as four recruits decommitted from Cignetti and Co. Olney (Md.) Good Counsel three-star cornerback Judah Jenkins, Cincinnati Mt. Healthy three-star athlete Javier Etheridge, Homerville (Ga.) Clinch County three-star wide receiver Jeremy Bell and Madison (Ohio) Trotwood-Madison three-star quarterback Timothy Carpenter all backed off their pledges.

The class is without a blue-chip prospect and currently has just one commit who ranks inside the top 500 of the On3 Industry Ranking — Palm Beach (Fla.) Cardinal Newman three-star CB Josh Philostin.

Philostin is now one of four defensive backs pledged to the Hoosiers. He’s joined by Enterprise (Ala.) three-star safety Keion Dunlap, Carmel (Ind.) three-star CB Christian Peterson and Manassas (Va.) Freedom three-star safety Kameron Courtney.

On the offensive side of the ball, Mendoza joins a group that includes the likes of Indianapolis Speedway three-star interior offensive lineman Adedamola Ajani, Nashville Father Ryan three-star wide receiver Charlie Becker and Davisburg (Mich.) Clarkston three-star tight end Brody Kosin.

The class also ranks 16th out of 18 teams in the new Big Ten. Only Northwestern and Michigan State currently check in behind the Hoosiers as Cignetti looks to rebuild in Bloomington. Indiana’s 2022 class finished No. 27 in the nation, which was its lone appearance in the top-30 in the last decade.
