Papillion (Neb.) Papillion-La Vista EDGE Will Hubert committed to Iowa on Sunday as a preferred walk-on.

Hubert had received scholarship offers from Buffalo, Columbia, Harvard, North Texas, Penn and Yale.

The 6-foot-4 Nebraskan is a two-way player for his high school. On offense, he has played as a tight end and offensive lineman. But his best position is as an EDGE rusher.

Hubert had a monstrous junior season in 2020. In just nine games, Hubert had 84 tackles — 42 of which were tackles for loss. He also had an insane 19 sacks.

While he has not kept up the unsustainable pace from last season, Hubert is still a menace on the Nebraska high school football scene. He has 63 total tackles, 25 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks in eight games.

Iowa is making some noise on the recruiting trail

The Hawkeyes were one of the biggest winners on the recruiting trail in Week 6 due to their monumental top-five win over Penn State. Saturday’s loss to unranked Purdue is a major blow to the momentum they built over the previous few weeks but it won’t totally destroy it.

The impact of seeing Kinnick Stadium at its best will still weigh more heavily than a shocking loss to the Boilermakers.

It has already resulted in Hamilton (Ohio) High three-star running back Kaleb Johnson flipping from Cal to Iowa.

“What stood out to me most was just how many people were there, how loud they were and how it really had an effect on Penn State,” four-star offensive lineman Cadyen Green of Lee’s Summit (Mo.) North said of the Penn State win. “I’d heard how crazy games were there, but I did not expect it to be that crazy. The stands were packed out; it was great. Iowa has always been very high on my list, and they will continue to be. I think Iowa is a very cool place and it has a very cool environment.”
