Caitlin Clark and Iowa are hotter than ever heading into the national championship game against South Carolina on Sunday. Defeating UConn 71-69 in dramatic fashion in the Final Four — Clark believes the Hawkeyes’ confidence has hit an all-time high.

While the Gamecocks come into the title game undefeated, the Hawkeyes have rattled off a streak of their own, winning their last 11 games dating back to Feb. 25. During this run, Iowa scored more than 90 points in eight of those games. It’s clear Iowa is playing as free as ever as Clark continues to conduct both sides of the ball.

“The reason we’ve won games all year long is because we play Iowa basketball. And that’s sharing the ball, high assist numbers, low turnovers,” Clark said postgame. “Obviously would have liked to have more assists tonight but we didn’t shoot the ball the greatest. Things like that. I think everybody’s confidence has been at an all-time high throughout the Big Ten Tournament and during the NCAA Tournament. And that’s how it needs to be and that’s the reason we’re at this point.”

At this point, Clark’s reputation as the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history precedes her. In five NCAA Tournament games so far, she’s averaging 30.0 point, 9.4 assists and 7.6 rebounds while carrying the Hawkeyes to the national title game.

However, it’s evident that Clark’s superstardom is not only showcasing her skills — but her teammates as well. In every game the Hawkeyes have played in since the tournament began, at least two of Clark’s teammates have also scored in double figures.

“Going to the national championship game, everybody’s stepping up. It’s not just me,” Clark continued. “It’s not just one player. That’s not what this is. We wouldn’t be at this point right now if it was just one player. And everybody comes up and makes really big plays when we need them.

“And Sydney Affolter has six offensive rebounds tonight. That’s pretty incredible. So I think it’s the small things. Everybody comes up and does little things that eventually changes the tide of the game. And we’re able to win.”

As Clark continues to elevate the play of her teammates, the Hawkeyes and Gamecocks are set to do battle on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET and will air live on ABC and ESPN.
