Iowa guard Caitlin Clark not only led the Hawkeyes to the Final Four on Sunday, but she also made a pair of historic personal achievements in the process. According to ESPN, Clark became the first player in Division 1 history to record 900 points and 300 assists in the same season.

Not only that, but Clark also became the first player in NCAA Tournament history to finish with a 40-point triple-double. She ended the game with 41 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds as Iowa claimed a 97-83 victory against Louisville.

According to The Athletic’s Chris Vannini, Clark also became the first player in women’s or men’s NCAA Tournament history to record a 40-point triple-double since Oscar Robertson in 1960. However, it is the first officially recorded as assists were not tracked until the 1983-84 season.

Clark entered the game with 299 assists on the season and quickly picked up her 300th just five minutes into the game. The records were just a couple of many she already has broken throughout her career. She holds the longest active streak of consecutive double-digit scoring games with 87 and ranks second in Hawkeyes history in career points (2,646).

With the win Sunday, Iowa moves on to face the winner between South Carolina and Maryland in the Final Four. With Caitlin Clark on their side, the Hawkeyes will enter that matchup with confidence.

More on the Iowa win, Caitlin Clark’s historic performance

One of the most electric basketball players in the nation, Clark gave fans a show with her performance on Sunday. Through three quarters, Clark had racked up 33 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists — just two rebounds away from another career triple-double which she would secure before the final whistle.

Quickly after the final quarter began, Clark drilled another three-pointer to make her 8-for-14 from downtown on the evening. On the following possession, Clark recovered a loose ball from a Louisville turnover and passed it to a teammate for an easy layup to pick up her 11th assist and the game appeared to be fully in control.

Unfortunately for Clark and the Hawkeyes, Louisville wasn’t ready to go down without a fight. The Cardinals went on a 13-1 run in the final quarter to cut the lead down to just ten points with just over two minutes left in the game. The Hawkeyes were able to stop the bleeding to close the game however, hitting clutch free throws to preserve their lead and finish the job.
