After attending Iowa vs. LSU in the women’s national championship on Sunday, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden said she was going to suggest the Hawkeyes also come to the White House for a visit despite losing the game. That didn’t sit well with LSU star Angel Reese — and Iowa star Caitlin Clark didn’t sound too sure about the idea, either.

Clark joined Jeremy Schapp for “Outside the Lines” on Tuesday’s edition of SportsCenter and said she doesn’t think Iowa should get a White House invitation because the Hawkeyes lost the game. LSU will receive an invitation after beating Iowa 102-85, and Clark thinks the Tigers should be the only team to head to the nation’s capital.

That said, Clark joked she wants to go to the White House someday. She just doesn’t want to do so after dropping the title game.

“I don’t think runner-ups usually go to the White House,” Clark said. “I think LSU should enjoy that moment for them. Congratulations, obviously, they deserve to go there. Maybe I can go to the White House on different terms, though. But I think that’s for LSU. That’s a pretty cool moment and they should enjoy every single second of being a champion. So I think that’s theirs to do.

“But more than anything, I’m just lucky enough that there were some really cool people in that arena at that championship game Sunday night. There were some really highly sought-after people watching and supporting women’s basketball, and that’s exactly what this game needs. So I appreciate the First Lady being in the house and watching both teams and supporting the greatness of women’s basketball.”

Dr. Jill Biden suggests Iowa also visit White House

Biden was in attendance for Sunday’s game between LSU and Iowa along with other big names. Of course, LSU put on quite a show en route to the big victory — the first national title in program history.

Traditionally, only the championship team to celebrate their title at the White House with the President and First Lady. Still, that won’t stop Biden from petitioning for it.

“I know we’ll have the champions come to the White House, we always do. So, we hope LSU will come,” Biden said, via ESPN. “But, you know, I’m going to tell Joe I think Iowa should come, too, because they played such a good game.”

That led to a poignant response from Reese via Twitter.

“A JOKE,” Reese tweeted, along with three crying laughing emojis.
