FOX to introduce 'Caitlin Cam' on TikTok following Iowa's Caitlin Clark vs. Maryland on Saturday
The hype around the biggest star in college basketball continues to grow. Iowa‘s Caitlin Clark will have a “Caitlin Clark Cam” on her during Saturday’s game at Maryland, Fox Sports announced on Thursday.
The ‘Caitlin Clark Cam’ will stream live on the Fox Sports College Basketball TikTok account.
Scott Dochterman of The Athletic provided some additional details on what exactly Fox has planned.
According to Dochterman, the camera will follow Clark around on every offensive possession she is in the game and will focus on her. When Clark is on defense and when Clark is out of the game, it will follow game action.
Dochterman also reports that the sound will be natural arena sound, instead of the broadcasters breaking down the game.
Tip off is set for 8 p.m., with Gus Johnson, Stephanie White and Kim Adams on the call.
Iowa enters Saturday’s matchup with a 20-2 (9-1) record. The Hawkeyes are of course led by Caitlin Clark, who is averaging 32.1 points, 7 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game.
Maryland enters Saturday’s contest with a 12-9 (4-6) record. The Terrapins reached the Elite 8 last season but have not had the season they were hoping to thus far in 2023-24. Obviously upsetting Clark and Iowa on national television could go a long way towards changing that.
Caitlin Clark reacts to becoming No. 2 all-time leading scorer in women’s basketball
The Iowa women’s basketball team celebrated one of their most dominant wins of the season on Wednesday night, defeating Northwestern 110-74 behind 35 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds from star player Caitlin Clark.
It was a historic night for the reigning national player of the year, who surpassed Ohio State‘s Kelsey Mitchell in the second quarter to become the No. 2 all-time leading scorer in women’s college basketball history. It’s a record that she admitted was not necessarily on her radar as a goal she wanted to achieve during her career.
“No, I did not. Honestly I didn’t even know at what point it occurred,” Clark said after the game. “I think the coolest thing is just the names that I get to be around. Those are people that I grew up watching, especially Kelsey Plum, Brittney Griner, Kelsey Mitchell.”
Clark’s 3,424 career points make her the NCAA’s second all-time leading scorer, placing her 104 points shy of surpassing former Washington All-American Kelsey Plum, who notched 3,527 points in 2017 to take the women’s college basketball’s scoring crown.
And with Clark averaging a nation-leading 32.1 points per game with eight games remaining in the regular season and an entire postseason of play ahead of the Hawkeyes, her becoming women’s basketball’s all-time leading scorer seems inevitable.
